In a short history of 35 years, the people of Bangladesh have had a long and struggling journey through numerous political turmoil and natural calamities on their road to development. Despite many obstacles, the country has achieved significant developmental landmarks, and has gained great honor from the outside world. But the journey is not over, and the path is still not very easy to traverse. From the beginning of its political history, the youth of Bangladesh have played a major role in voicing the opinion of civic society and they have been in the forefront of all major movements – in 1952 (Language Movement), 1971 (Liberation Movement), and 1990 (Fall of autocratic government). Today, the youth power is dispersed across the entire world, but they still seek the spirit of the historical movements, and draw inspiration from people who stand out as fearless faces of a diligent nation. The mission of "Owning Our Future" is to create a forum to bring about awareness and stimulate action-oriented dialogue among the Bangladeshi youth in diaspora on social justice, secularism, and democratic process in order to foster development and leadership in Bangladesh. This will be a platform for the youth of Bangladeshi origin who are seeking ways to contribute in the development of the country - to help them lead their optimism into prosperous realities.
